What challenges me about solo travel

Travelling solo and writing about it bring up a few challenges for me. The biggest is staying honest about my own experience without pretending it will be the same for everyone.

My experience is not everyone’s experience

Money, cultural background, and the barriers we face can change what is possible. I want travel to feel achievable, but sometimes I feel I should add a warning: this might not apply if you’re experiencing a different set of barriers to mine.

Keeping the person in the story

I want my recommendations to come from something real. Finding the balance between a personal story and useful advice is not always easy. Neither is keeping up with platforms and algorithms. Just when I feel comfortable with content creation, something changes.

Packing light, including the souvenirs

Minimalism is more than a packing decision for me. I watch friends return with enviable quantities of cool souvenirs and have to remind myself that somewhere, a thrift store is trying to unload a collection of your nana’s decorative spoons.

I’m still learning how to travel thoughtfully and write about it honestly. I don’t need every story to end with a lesson. Sometimes it is enough to say what I noticed.
