How much winter do I pack for Prague?

A white suitcase with red straps, topped by a red shoulder bag and travel mug, in a hotel room.
My suitcase at the Hilton, packed the night before a trip.

I’m still in Victoria, trying to decide how much winter to pack for Prague. Victoria’s idea of winter is mild. I know what to wear here when it’s cold and damp. I’m less sure how that translates to standing outside in Prague after dark with a camera in my hands.

I’m taking a carry-on, which is where this gets interesting. I’m leaning toward one warm coat I can wear on the plane, a layer underneath, a toque, gloves I can use with my phone, and shoes I can walk in for hours. A thin pair of thermals might earn its spot, too.

The question I keep coming back to is how long I’ll be standing still. Walking to dinner is one thing. Waiting for the right shot is another. I love that taking photos gives me a reason to stay out a little longer. I’ll just like it more if I can still feel my fingers.
