I’m Charlotte Millington. I live in Victoria, British Columbia, and I’m a Canadian traveller, content creator, mother, and grandmother.
My first solo flight
My first solo flight was when I was three years old, between Montreal and Halifax. In the early 1970s, as I remember it, very young children could fly alone, and the person in the seat beside them was simply asked to keep an eye on them. I was too young to use an unfamiliar bathroom on my own and cried for a good part of the flight.
It wasn’t an easy beginning. Nonetheless, that flight sparked a lifelong comfort with travel. Over time, travelling became part of the fabric of who I am.
Learning to see a story
My travel photography began at seven, with my first camera: a Kodak 110 with cube flashes. We were on a family trip to Newfoundland and St. Pierre et Miquelon. Armed with several small boxes of 110 film, I took endless photographs of the journey: airports, ferries, tourist attractions, places we stayed, and people we met.
I remember the freedom my camera gave me. From the start of the trip to the end, strangers coached me on how to look through the viewfinder and see a story.
Curious enough to go
Travel is a large part of my life, but it has to fit into a real life. I have work, family, responsibilities, and a finite amount of time. That shapes how I travel and what I want to share here.
My approach is minimalist. I like travelling solo and carrying less. I’m interested in what a place feels like when I’m there, as much as what it looks like in a photograph. This journal is where I can take a little more time to say what I think.
The life I come home to
I’m a mother and grandmother, and family matters deeply to me. You’ll find family memories and everyday observations alongside the travel stories. They are part of who I am, rather than a separate version of me.
The person behind the work
My working life has included healthcare, technology, and union advocacy. Listening, asking questions, and being willing to speak up have shaped how I see the world. Those experiences are part of my background, even as this website looks toward travel and the life around it.
I also run CoffeeCupExec and The Travel Content Institute. Those are the places to explore my professional services and travel creator education. Here, you get my perspective and experience.
My words, my choices
I want this to be a place where I can be candid. A useful recommendation belongs in a story when it helps explain the experience. It does not get to decide the story.
Some links may earn me a commission. I disclose those relationships, and I keep editorial control. My recommendations and disclosure policy explains the approach.
